22 Weeks!

Today marks 22 weeks for me and baby Layton. I am so excited to meet my newest baby boy... only 18 weeks to go!

Pregnancy Highlights

How Far Along: 22 weeks

Size of Baby: 11 inches and weighs about 1 pound... about the size of spaghetti squash.

Total Weight Gained/Loss: At my last appointment almost 2 weeks ago I had gained 11 pounds, soooo I'm going to guess I'm closer to 15 by now. Clearly mama is growing fast.

Maternity Clothes: Almost everything is maternity at this point. I can still wear a few "comfy" clothes that aren't but even they're becoming not so comfortable.

Gender: Another boy!

Movement: I still feel him best when I'm sitting but he's starting to get active every night while we watch TV or while I lay in bed going to sleep. So precious. I'm even starting to feel him above my belly button now. Mama isn't the only one growing. =)

Food Cravings: No specific cravings just hungry all the time. I'm loving salty, sweet, and anything in between... which is why I'm growing so fast.

What I Miss: Being able to get up and down easily. Between playing with the boys and taking Austin to the potty, I'm up and down a lot and it's becoming more and more of an effort. Thankfully I remember feeling this way during Austin's pregnancy and wondering how I would make it to the end without being totally miserable, but I did and it wasn't even that bad!

Sleep: Sleep has become interesting lately. I usually can't breathe good when I go to bed so I wake up from that plus any sound the boys make and then it always takes me a while to go back to sleep. Maybe good, deep sleep will return soon.

Symptons: A really big appetite, congestion at bedtime, and just feeling heavy. Haha.

Best Moment This Week: Terrell being able to feel Layton move!

What I'm Looking Forward To: Just time with my family during one of my favorite seasons of the year and enjoying the 2nd trimester.

Weekend of Celebrations

Our weekend was full of fun and celebrations. Even though this Fall is SO busy that sometimes I wonder how I'll get to everything or fit it all in, our weekends have been wonderful. I'm so thankful for the blessing of fun weekends in the midst of a crazy, busy season.

We kicked off our weekend by meeting my in-laws on Friday night to celebrate my birthday and my brother-in-law's birthday. We had a great time catching up and the cousins loved seeing each other. Our meal times with 4 kiddos are finally calming down a little. Even Austin did great! We enjoyed a delicious meal and then my in-laws surprised me by having my blog posts from 2012 published. I was so excited! It's no secret that I love this blog and treasure all the memories it holds, so having it published is super special. Now I have a published book of every year but this one. Turning 30 has been very good to me. =)

Saturday morning we went to Garrison's football game and had another little celebration... he didn't get to run the ball this time but he did get to play center quite a bit AND he finally got an opposing team member's flag! He was SO excited and we were too! All season he's wanted to get another player's flag but he's sort of the baby on the team and one of the smallest so it's hard to get flags when you factor in size and playing 6 on 6... so this was a BIG deal. He was beaming. I think he wanted to keep that flag forever.

After the game the boys stayed home while mama went grocery shopping solo and then we had lunch, naps, and visited the pumpkin patch! Everyone had fun... success! A separate blog post is coming soon on the details of our Saturday afternoon and evening full of Fall fun.

We also celebrated again on Saturday night because my boys slept together in the same room again and did great!

*Quick "Move In" Update: Austin has been napping in Garrison's room every single day since last Monday. Totally his choice. He just wants to nap in the big boy bed and has done GREAT. Like, no issues at all with naptime. I've been soo proud. Then, on Thursday night he decided he wanted to go to sleep for bedtime in the big boy bed. So Garrison slept on the top bunk and Austin was on the bottom and after 2 warnings to stop talking/playing and to go to sleep... they did! And slept til 7:00 the next morning. We were so thankful for how well they did. Unfortunately it didn't work out so well on Friday night. Austin asked to sleep in the big boy bed but later cried and asked to go sleep in his crib. (Then Garrison cried because he was lonely without Austin and missed him. Bless his heart. They are both trying so hard to adjust.) Since we're not pushing him or forcing him to sleep in Garrison's room we immediately put him to bed in his crib and wondered if Thursday night was just a fluke. But then on Saturday night he slept in Garrison's room again and they didn't wake up until 7:35 on Sunday morning. Yaaaay! So far the pattern is every other night but we'll take it. After our diaster that first night/morning, we're just thankful for progress.

On Sunday after church the whole fam loaded up to head to B'ville for the afternoon. My sister had her 2nd bridal shower and Terrell took the boys to play at his parents' house while I went to the shower. The boys had a ball with their grandparents and I had a ball at the shower!

Emily (our cousin's wife who threw the shower) is the ultimate hostess. I love her attention to detail and the way she makes everything so special and personalized. She seriously thinks of everything is so crafty and talented. We had the best time celebrating with family and just laughing and catching up.

Anna and Frankie have definitely been showered with lots of special gifts for their new home and I am just so happy and excited for them. The big day is only about a month away!!

We survived our first day back at school today... even though daddy had the day off... and are trying to get back in the swing of things. Happy Columbus Day Monday!

October Lovin'

The Weather: I am loving the weather this month. Every year by the time October rolls around I am so over the summer heat and humidity. And so far the October weather has not disappointed. This weather is bliss. It's really cool in the mornings but warms up as the day goes on... but not too much, and then it cools off again. Ahhh. My fav. We have spent tons of time outside this week enjoying the blessing of the wonderful temps. Every single day in fact.

Also, my baby is learning to drive Garrison's big ole dune racer. It's hilarious and scary at the same time. Thankfully his foot doesn't reach very well so he starts and stops a lot and Garrison grabs the wheel when necessary. I love these two so much and I'm so excited to add another one to the bunch. =)

My Birthday Presents: I was spoiled big time this year for my birthday. I'm actually spoiled every year considering I'm a grown-up and still get a "party" and presents. =) Anyway, I am really loving all my presents so much. My parents took the boys to pick out a mum for me and gave me this gorgeous new Fall wreath. I just love looking at my front door every time I leave the house and every time I come home. And Terrell Selph totally surprised me with all he got me that I can't wait to use. Plus I have gift cards to spend. I am blessed!

Fall Decor: My house was decorated for Fall before October arrived but now it just seems to fit perfectly with the cooler weather and the leaves changing and falling and the tad shorter days. My mantle is my favorite I think... and the only thing that got photographed because my house is currently a tad messy. I also love my dining room table and having pumpkin candles and soap everywhere.

Fall Break: With the exception of Monday we are having a wonderful Fall Break. I have loved spending extra time at home with these 2...

Plus a few special outings like Chuck E. Cheese and our first ever real, true play date.

(We met some moms and other kiddos from our new Sunday School class at the playground at the church for a picnic lunch. I stepped WAY out of my comfort zone but knew the boys would love it and knew that's got to happen eventually to get to know people better. I'm happy to report we all had a lot of fun!)

I think they've loved the break as much as I have. Sleeping later, no school, no lunches to make the night before, lots of playtime, a mid-week trip to B'ville for haircuts and lunch. Yep, it's been fun. And I have to say that I most definitely prefer Fall Break to take place in October. We're not sure where we'll be for school next year but I would love another October Fall Break.

Halloween Books: I am loving all our Halloween books. Most of them are from my big school teaching days but some of them are also gifts from grandparents or other family member for the boys. I've loved reading them to the boys and I've loved having a special place for them. I'm keeping them just out of reach for Austin so he can't get into them whenever he wants but they're readily accessible to Garrison. And it's nice to have a clean-up spot for them once we finish reading a few. I'm planning to do the same thing with our Christmas books. It will keep them altogether and nice and neat when not in use. =)

Upcoming Plans: I am looking forward to lots of fun coming up... more bridal showers, a visit to the pumpkin patch, Fall Festivals, and our annual family pictures. It's going to be really busy coming up but really fun too.

Happy Fall!!

Moving In... and Out

Our family is growing. Quickly. We have until February to make room for our newest bundle of joy and to prepare our home for his arrival. And the walls are closing in. Ha! Just kidding. Sort of.

Our house has 3 bedrooms and 1 office that could be a bedroom (because it has a closet and apparently in real estate terms that qualifies a room as a potential bedroom), however, our office is really small with an open ceiling (like a studio) and houses our computer, 2 desks, some toys, ironing board, etc. And there's no where else for all those things to go. So the office will remain an office. We've never once considered attempting to transform it into a bedroom. Which means we really and truly only have 3 bedrooms. But we're about to have 3 kiddos. Which means not everyone gets to have their very own room... aka the big boys will need to share a room.

So Sunday night was the big night. The start of our Fall Break (I've been determined to work this whole transition around a break from school from the start... plenty of time to adjust without having to wake anybody up early and make them go to school, including me) and a perfect time because Austin is now a little over 2 (the exact age as Garrison when he moved to a big boy bed) plus he will absolutely love sharing a room with Garrison. They will both be thrilled. They will stay up a little later than normal talking and laughing and excited about their new sleeping arrangement, but then they will sleep late and wake up happy and overjoyed about being together and sharing a room.

WRONG. Boohoohoo!!

Sunday night was tough. Austin was totally thrown off and even a little scared. Something we never anticipated. Garrison's room is a little darker than his and poor baby just cried and cried and said more than once Autin cared, Autin cared. Bless his heart. So after attempting to leave the lamp on and then deciding that was too bright, we moved another night light in and Terrell and I were back and forth, in and out of their room 6 or 7 times. All the while, Garrison is trying to go to sleep but Austin is on and off the bed, crying, or doing whatever to keep him awake. I felt so guilty for putting them both through it, but finally, after about an hour they both got quiet and went to sleep. Yay!

They slept all night (yay again!) but Austin woke up around 6 am and then woke up his brother. Noooooo! My boys never wake up that early. Ever. We even heard Garrison trying to get Austin to go back to sleep. When that didn't happen we decided to just let them be and then after 7 (an appropriate time for kiddos to wake up at our house) I finally went in to get them up... where they were still going strong talking and playing in bed.

And so began my toughest parenting day ever.

The whole day was hard. The easiest part was going grocery shopping. Go figure. Garrison was a little testy and emotional but overall I thought he handled his lack of sleep great. Austin however had meltdown after meltdown after meltdown. He refused to go potty and almost fell in more than once. He spent lots of time in his crib in time-out because of refusing to listen, cooperate, go potty, get dressed, you name it. He cried in my lap a lot. He dumped his plate of lunch in the floor. He went potty in the floor after refusing to go on the potty. He got hurt numerous times because of him and Garrison playing too rough. It was awful. I think I yelled more at my kids yesterday than ever before. I also cried with them and cried because of them. And I prayed a lot.

Then I felt guilty about it all. I felt guilty for yelling and losing my patience. I felt guilty because all of the drama was my fault for making them share a room before they were ready. I felt guilty because the stress and emotional roller coaster of the day couldn't be good for Layton. It was ROUGH.

(I can't even accurately describe naptime except to say that Austin cried and threw a fit and was totally inconsolable with me sitting right beside him for 30 minutes or so until he finally gave up from exhaustion and cried himself to sleep. I cried too. Sigh.)

Then daddy came home and we had supper and the boys played outside and Austin got a little better and we thought we'd just start over fresh and try again. Night 2 had to be easier right?

Wrong again.

Austin wasn't scared this time he just didn't know how to settle down in Garrison's room, in Garrison's bed, with Garrison. He cried off and on. He layed all over Garrison's side of the bed. He threw their blankets and stuffed animals behind the bed. He threw his pillow behind the bed. He talked and looked at books and kept Garrison up for around 2 hours. And then we gave up. On night 2. They had already been up since 6ish (over an hour earlier than they normally wake up) and it was already after 9 (over an hour later than they normally go to bed). Enough was enough. It wasn't fair to either one of them. Once they were separated they went right to sleep and slept until 8 this morning. I think they were both exhausted.

I went right to sleep after all that too. But not before I had one more good cry. Mama was spent. Terrell and I didn't even talk about the drama or a solution or plan B or anything. I think he knew I was done and in no mood to talk and I knew he was just as frustrated and in no mood to talk, so we just didn't speak a word about it or anything... until this morning.

After discussing things we both believe that Austin probably just isn't ready. He's not only moving into a big boy bed, he's moving into a new room and attempting to sleep in the same bed as Garrison. It's a lot of change for a just turned 2 year old. Soooo, the new plan is to try again later. We're not exactly sure when. We may try every Friday night for a while and try to make it a special treat as a way to ease him into it. We may put it off until Christmas and our next long break from school when Austin will be just a little older. We may try naptime first when Garrison won't be in there to get him used to that before attempting bedtime again.

The good news is that we do have some options. The bad news is that one way or another they have to share a room eventually. Unless we move to a bigger house really soon... which would be a huge surprise.

We're also thinking of letting Garrison sleep on the top bunk (but without the ladder so Austin can't climb up there). That way Austin will have the whole full-size bottom bed to himself and Garrison will have some space and privacy on the top bunk where he can possibly go to sleep even if Austin is talking/playing/all over the bed below him. Sleeping in the same bed has been really tough for both of them. Something else I never would've predicted. I thought it was just going to be fun and happy and special for them getting to be together. Oh well. It'll be okay... and one day far, far from now I'll look back and laugh at how crazy things were when they shared a room for the first time ever.

While the "move in" was way more stressful than I ever anticipated we are still holding out hope that we'll be able to make the transition before February. That's our ultimate goal. In the meantime, it's just gonna be trial and error with a lot of prayer and patience thrown in.

My 30th Birthday

Yesterday was my 30th birthday and we spent the whole weekend celebrating. I was definitely spoiled... and it was wonderful!
A long time ago Terrell planned an amazing all day date for us to celebrate me turning 30. He knows me SO well because this was the perfect gift for me and the best way ever to celebrate my birthday. I don't think I could've planned it any better. I love dating my husband and this was a full day of dates...all with me in mind. And it was the same day as a Georgia game. That fact alone just made me love him even more. =)

The original plan was to start our day with breakfast, see an early movie, do a little shopping, eat an early dinner at the Sun Dial, and then see the Laser Show at Stone Mountain to wrap up the day. Well not everything went exactly according to plan, but I loved everything about my day and had so much fun celebrating with my favorite person. It was one of my best birthdays ever.

My parents came over Saturday morning to keep the boys and we left for our first breakfast date in years. I literally can't remember the last time we enjoyed a breakfast out alone. It was wonderful! We went to Cracker Barrel and pretty much had a perfect meal for breakfast. Yum!

After breakfast it was time for shopping... one of my favorite things!

*Quick sidenote: Unfortunately we decided against seeing a movie this time. And at first it was a HUGE bummer because we only get to go to the movies like once or twice a year. Timing, baby-sitting, money... it all plays a factor into why we seldom go. Anyway, we had planned to see the movie Captain Phillips until we discovered it isn't coming out until the 11th. We were SO disappointed because this always seems to happen to us. The one chance we have to see a movie and there's nothing out we want to see. Ugh. We looked into other movies, read reviews, watched previews and there just wasn't anything that we would both enjoy and that would be worth our time and money. So we decided against it this time. Guess there's always Redbox.

Instead, we went shopping for boots for me (thanks babe!) and shopping for a few items the boys will need for fall and winter. Plus, we registered for baby Layton. So much fun! We had a great day shopping and hanging out together. We talked and laughed so hard. It was the best.

Once we finished our shopping we came home to change clothes and get ready for our romantic dinner at the Sun Dial. And we got to the see the boys for just a little bit before they headed to B'ville with Granna and Papa for the night. They hung out at our house for most of the day because Garrison had an 11:00 football game (he had his best game ever and got to run the ball for an almost touchdown!!), and then they had lunch and naptime for Austin before taking them to Barnesville.

We were so excited to be going back to the Sun Dial. Terrell took me there for my Senior Prom and then again after he proposed, so we hadn't been in over 9 years. I had totally forgotten what that elevator ride up to the 72nd floor felt like. Crazy! But I loved the view.

We got a window seat and enjoyed our dinner so much. The food was super fancy... so not everything was exactly what you thought it'd be but we still enjoyed our meal, and the atmosphere was pretty special. You can't beat the views and rotating around the whole top floor while you eat. Priceless.

I meant to take pictures of all of our food but was starving by the time we ate so the only one that got a photo before I stuffed my face was dessert... Delish!

I also got to see the sunset. It was beautiful! Terrell was away in the bathroom and sneaking in a few minutes of the Georgia game at the bar. Bless his heart... it was a stressful game that Georgia didn't desserve to win and he did great putting me first. =)

We went at the best time... our reservations were at 5:30 so it was a clear, sunny day when we arrived but nighttime by the time we left. We got to enjoy the best of both views. And UGA won the game a few minutes before we got on the elevator to go down. Thank goodness! It took me back to our last second win against the same team on my 18th birthday when Terrell took me to the Perry Fair.

After leaving Sun Dial we headed for Stone Mountain and got there just a few minutes late only to find out the Laser Show was about to wrap up. Boo. Terrell had just called 2 days before and was told it would start at 8:30... which was wrong because it had started at 8:00. We were pretty disappointed (especially Terrell who had worked so hard to plan our special date), but I had had such a wonderful day and was in such a good mood I couldn't stay down for long. In the future, we'll know not to trust whoever answers the phone when you call Stone Mountain.

I had one of the best days ever with my wonderful hubby and was so thankful for time alone with him and time to do some of my favorite things. Breakfast, shopping, and a fancy restaurant! It was a really special day. =)

Sunday morning (on my actual birthday) we slept late (glorious!) and then met my family and the boys at a restaurant for my birthday lunch. Other than Austin being off-the-chain high maintenance, we had a fun time and delicious meal. Later on Sunday we celebrated with cake, ice cream, and presents. My family totally spoiled me! I loved spending my day with everybody and am so blessed I got to celebrate my 30th birthday with my amazing family. Everything about it was pretty wonderful.

HUGE thanks to my husband for making this birthday one of my all-time favorites and HUGE thanks to my parents for keeping the boys for us!!

***My first day in my 30's hasn't been easy. It's actually been really hard. I'm exhausted, emotionally and mentally drained, and sort of hanging by a thread.... and this is why.... my baby moved in with my big boy last night. Details coming soon...

20 Weeks!

We're halfway there! I can't believe I'm already 20 weeks. In a way it just doesn't feel like we should be here yet. Time flies when you're having fun... and the mama of two busy boys and the sister of the bride. =) On the otherhand since we've known since June 15th we were expecting again it sort of feels like I've been pregnant for reeally long time, and when I look at it that way I can definitely believe I'm 20 weeks. Anyway, here's an update on baby boy.

 Pregnancy Highlights

How far along: 20 Weeks

Size of baby: 6.5 inches long and weighs around 10 ounces....about the size of a mango.

Total Weight Gained/Loss: I've gained 11 lbs so far and right now I'm okay with that. I don't feel huge and I think I'm on track with my weight gain from my previous pregnancies (which weren't too out of control), so I'm happy with it for now.

Maternity Clothes: Almost 100% maternity clothes now. I can still wear my t-shirts and stretchy/cotton/comfy shorts but almost everything else is maternity.

Gender: Boy #3... Layton Thomas

Movement: I feel him everyday now and am just loving it. I think it's one of the best parts about being pregnant. I'm excited for Terrell to feel him too but I'm not sure if his kicks and movements are strong enough yet. I still feel him best when I'm sitting and love to talk to him while he's moving if I can. =)

Food Cravings: Hmmm... sweets are becoming very tempting.

What I Miss: That's a tough one because right now I'm feeling so good. I still get queasy mid-morning and actually threw up on Friday morning (strangest thing ever since that never happened with Garrison or Austin), so I guess feeling good throughout the morning would be what I miss most. But it hasn't been that bad lately... except for Friday.

Sleep: Keeps going great! Yay!!!

Symptons: Being hungry almost all the time and making frequent trips to the bathroom again.

Best Moment This Week: Garrison kissing my belly multiple times and always telling me he misses me and baby Layton when we're not together, and Austin being so excited to see baby Layton at the doctor. (He went with me to my appointment this morning and did great. He didn't get to see his little brother but he did get to hear his heartbeat. He was impressed. =))

What I'm Looking Forward To: My special birthday date with my husband this weekend and celebrating with family. The big 3-0 is right around the corner. =)

Weekend Fun & Anna's 1st Shower

We had ourselves another super fun weekend. It was bliss. We kicked off our weekend by going out to our favorite pizza buffet on Friday night. The boys were thrilled and we all ate too much. We hadn't been able to go in quite a while so it felt like a special treat to enjoy all we wanted of our fav pizzas. Yum.

Then Saturday morning we were up bright and early for Garrison's 9:00 football game. I love Fall weather, but not so much having to sit outside in it when it feels like it's freezing cold because you haven't experienced temperatures below 60 degress in a looong time... so therefore it really is freezing cold. And the cold must have effected my baby because he just wasn't into this game. He was sort of out of it... and yawned a lot. And, come to find out he's one of the youngest on the team because he's with a group of 4 to 7 year olds. We just discovered this last practice and aren't very happy about it... but what do you do? We're already half-way into the season and committed now. Anyway, we've noticed that with all the teams the bigger, faster, older kids get the most playing time and the most opportunities to touch the ball and play. Which made me quite defensive on Saturday morning while I froze. But Terrell and I are trying to remember that #1: He's only 4, and #2: If he's having fun that's all that matters. We survived the game, Garrison said he had fun, we called it a success, and I got over my defensiveness and moved on.

After a trip to the grocery store and grabbing some yummy take-out for lunch we prepared for nap time for Austin and for Garrison and I to bake our cake... after a quick nap for mama too. Everything went great (except when I discovered the icing is sold separately even though the box shows a picture of a yummy, iced cake AND says all you'll need to make what's on the box is eggs, water, and oil... very misleading if you ask me). It turned out delicious and the whole family loved it! Garrison picked out strawberry which I think was an excellent choice. Who knows, I just may decide to bake from a box more often.
Saturday afternoon and evening was filled with play time and craziness for the boys while their daddy attempted to watch the UGA/LSU game. And we won!!! Terrell only yelled crazy loud at the TV once... while his children stared at him wide-eyed... and then he caught himself and started laughing. So the boys knew he was okay and daddy hadn't lost his mind. I love him. He snapped out of it in 2 seconds. I was so proud.

Then yesterday was my sister's first bridal shower! My Nanny and I hosted it for her and I think everything turned out great. She got lots and lots of presents and we all enjoyed catching up and eating good shower food. We have lots more showers coming up and I think Layton is a big fan of shower food. I'm already looking forward it.

The bride to be!

The delicious cake! (Anna's new last name will be O'Mary) I loved how it turned out and am so thankful it survived all the transporting I put it through.

Presents!! Yay for shower gifts and filling your home with all things NEW. =)

After the shower wrapped up we made a few pictures... which turned out to be SO hilarious and we laughed til we cried.

My Nanny attempted to work my "fancy" camera and couldn't find us when she looked through. So we were cracking up before she took the picture... then afterwards when we saw it and realized I barely made it in and was cut off a little we could not stop laughing. It was soo funny.

Then we made a picture with Anna and both of our grandmothers. Nanny (my dad's mom) is on the left and Granny (my mom's mom) is on the right. Nanny was still cracking up. Ha! I am so blessed to have both these ladies in my life. They are one of a kind.

I loved throwing Anna her first shower and feel like I'm probably almost as excited about the next one as she is. I can't wait!

All 3 of my boys were happy to see me when I got home for supper last night. They had a fun day together but really made me feel loved when I got home.

We enjoyed our weekend to the fullest and are going to try to survive a wild and crazy week ahead without stressing, meltdowns, or any more doctor's appointments than are already scheduled!
